About me
my passion
July 8, 2018
My name is Veronica Huizar and I am an undergraduate student at the University of Denver, majoring in Molecular Biology with a triple minor in Chemistry, Leadership Studies, and Mathematics. Within the University of Denver I am part of the (in)Equity in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (E-STEM) Program, the Pioneer Leadership Program (PLP), 1GenU, National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), and a proud sister of Pi Lambda Chi Latina Sorority Inc.
Science is one of my biggest passion, specifically biology. Every aspect of life from the scientific perspective attracts my attention. This passion has lead me to major in Molecular Biology, with the purpose of attending medical school after my undergraduate journey.
In my free time, I enjoy reading, writing, going for a run, hiking, playing tennis, and doing any outside activity. I am a big activist for human rights and equality, and seek to help others achieve their goal, instead of pushing them down. I can not wait for you to navigate with me through my undergraduate research experience.

how i got here...
I learned about this program in my first year of undergrad at the University of Denver through the Equity in STEM (E-STEM) program. What better way to spend my summer than to do research at DU, and learn more about the science field overall. This program has been possible thanks to a generous grant from the Colorado Wyoming Alliance for Minority Participation (CO-WY AMP), that allowed the University of Denver’s Division of Natural Science (NSM) and Mathematics and the Ritchie School of Engineering and Computer Science (RSECS) to offer Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) research opportunities to undergraduates at the University of Denver. This opportunity is tailor made to suit students on the quarter system and is specifically for historically underrepresented students in the STEM fields to increase the number of STEM Scholars in the future. Through the “2018 University of Denver STEM Student Research Initiative (SRI) Application” I had the opportunity to conduct research projects in the Biological field of sciences.
